Rarepairs and shipping
So I like to read certain kinds of fanfiction. Deep emotional theme heavy fanfiction and romance mush and smut mostly.
I dunno I’m weird like that.
One thing I do wish there was more of was certain rare pairs.
As in ships that never sailed.
For example-I would love to see an ASOIAF/GOT fanfic where Tyrion and Catelyn alone in the mountains, get some heat on. Maybe they sleep curled together and end up passionately kissing and lovemaking. I know-it’s sick and weird and really niche. But hey, I want to read it and I plan on writing it.
Or SWEU ships-for example Anakin/Tenel Ka or Jacen/Wynessa Fel. The more obscure and less done the better.
It’s not the most virtuous trait-but I like fanfiction with adultery. Han Solo spreading his wild oats and giving Jacen and Jaina and Anakin some half siblings, or Catelyn pregnant with Robert Baratheon’s bastard from a night of intense sex in Winterfell.
For me, it’s not just sexy time(though that helps). But the novelty and lack of any adherence to canon patterns or what not.
Of course respecting canon and IU logic, characterization, etc... makes for better fanfiction. And some rarepairs simply just don’t work. But shipping in my opinion should not be limited to canon adherence.
To use the inheritance cycle-where is the Murtagh/Arya fanfic? Or the Eragon/Katrina fanfic?
Rarepairs are an expression of what fanfiction can be-and the better written is more the merrier.
Also they don’t have to be sex heavy-in the inheritance cycle for example I think the tone and atmosphere of the setting makes explicit work less well appropriate. So Murtagh/Arya can be kissing. In ASOIAF-Robert/Melisandre fics though should be hot and heavy and should get the reader’s loins swelling
